Check out this article about Protect Our Children: (Re)creating Family Acceptance published on the Bakersfield Californian. "It's about giving back to the community something I never received," Veliz said.

That candid moment when Dr. Caitlin Ryan tells you that she is proud of your family acceptance movement work! Glad Dr. Ryan knows about “Protect Our Children” & “Segregaytion”. I have been inspired by her work since 2009, a year after my dad voted Yes on Prop 8. Dr. Ryan has developed unique research-based educational materials to help families and caregivers to support their LGBTQ children. Google her! πŸ˜‰ Thanks Dr. Ryan for an incredible morning; for all you do for our communities, and being one of the most influential forces I know. #ReclaimPRIDE #FamilyAcceptance #SchoolinLaFamillia (at West Hollywood, California)

#AllofUSagainstBorders I arrived in the United States as a LGBTQ minor after attempting suicide three times due to homophobia, with eight tumors in my chest, latent tuberculosis, and diagnosed with depression. I escaped Perú to attempt a greater life expectancy, love myself, reunite with my dad (I missed him a lot!), work, and continue the fight for freedom in the USA. Forward a few years later, tell me how my “diseases” stopped me from becoming who I am now? Look at me straight in the eyes and tell me why you fear refugee children, LGBTQ asylum seekers, and immigrant family reunification. Tell me how my sacrifices, the color of my skin, my sexual orientation, and immigrant-driven taxes put your pursuit of happiness at risk? Tell me what is it that we need to protect our children from? Is it your criminalization and dehumanization of migrant children, or the prejudice and hate you are coloring into our young generation’s minds and hearts? Let’s stop the detention and deportation machinery. #EndTheQuota #Not1More #LiberationNotDeportation #LGBTQ #MigrantLivesMatter (at Peru to United States)

Ain't nobody got time for marriage equality when you're a 17-year-old queer immigrant youth without a place to call home.

On LGBTQ Homelessness

I'm not quitting the church, so what are you going to do with me? rape me away from my pride? I'm here to hold you accountable; to intercept and recreate all you've told me I'm not worthy of.

On Queerness and Religion

Family acceptance should be taught to be a public health priority, unless you're okay remaining silent while our youth continues to kill themselves or numbing their hearts and minds with substance abuse, drugs, and condomless sex.

On Life Expectancy
